We didn't actually see modern folks traveling until Asmodean taught Rand, yeah? That was four or five books in. It could definitely be an error.

I was thinking too that Ishy was never really sealed entirely and he might have been appearing in a kind of ghost-like way rather than straight-up traveling. Even Rand's early encounters are in dreams and weird kind of apparition-like states.
