Characters don't have ways of saying things anymore. I can't even imagine how crappy of a character Moiraine would have been if she wasn't always saying things "coolly" and "acidly" and... "Moiraine murmured." It was a HUGE part of RJ's characterization for all of the characters. When he had people saying things wryly, I could picture it instantly down to how I thought their mouths looked.
While I'm talking about pet peeves, it bothers me when people make excuses for Brandon by saying he's a new author. If I'm remembering correctly, he had five novels published before he started working on WoT. (Elantris, Mistborn series, and Arcatraz). He has since done at least four other books before AMOL. (Warbreaker, WOK, Arcatraz, another)

If you have to call someone "my friend" three times in a couple of minutes, he isn't.

The only people I've ever heard say "my friend" are foreign street vendors

Sanderson's handling of character interractions is pathetic....

Now see, here I don't fully agree, or at least think it's a matter of taste.

I've long since accepted that Sanderson uses inaccurate terms like "powerful"

To be fair, the last Moghedian PoV by RJ might have changed her a bit.

Yes. The last time it happened to me it ended with the taxi driver fined by the NYPD.
