Okay, but that's still irrelevant to the Oath Rod & its cutoff period or method, as well as lifespan Cannoli Send a noteboard - 15/10/2012 04:54:26 AM
From this, you can extrapolate that stronger channelers will live longer, and look younger for a longer time. But only up to a point, so Rand isn't going to slow at 1/100th the rate of Morghase. And once you look and feel about 65 (which comes after more years of life for stronger channgelers), you're a ticking time bomb. You'll not look or feel older, but some day soon, you'll die.
Right. And there is no proof that stronger channelers last longer beyond that point than weaker, or that while each will never look older than 65, maybe that only means the weaker one will hit that appearance first and live the full 800 years a stronger channeler would, only the strongest one is younger-looking for a greater proportion. According to you & RJ, you only age so far if you are a channeler, and the Power keeps your age from going beyond that look - maybe it also keeps you going for a certain number of years. Since everyone's appearance locks down at 65, regardless of their strength, maybe everyone will survive to 800 years, barring accident, foul play or other factors, regardless of how much of that time you spend looking 65. Channeler X might be stronger than Channeler Y, but they could both live to be 800, with X hitting the 65 look at about age 750 and Y reaching that appearance at maybe 600. Maybe X's greater strength can keep him alive longer, or maybe all it can do is keep him young-looking and vital for longer, and beyond a certain age, you conk out and die no matter what your strength.

And regardless of strength or its affects, that says nothing about 1. how the Oath Rod cuts your lifespan short or 2. if the Oath Rod's effect affected by the channeler's strength. Maybe all lifespans are the same, and Oath Rod kills you 500 years early. Maybe you can only live 300 years under the binder, no matter what your strength. After all, stronger sisters cannot beat the compulsion aspect of the binding, can they? Why then should they be able to last longer under the life-shortening effect?

People like Sorelia and the toothless Wilder Cadsuane meets are products of this Age, where decent healthcare and controlled environments for human habitation are absent. In the AoL, they would all have looked 65. Had Cadsuane not been bound, she would now look around 30 years old (extrapolating from Moghedien), whereas Sorelia looks a lot older even though she's probably the same age.
Or less. She's so weak, she barely aged. Meanwhile, I believe Melaine must be fairly old (on a mortal scale), as she looks to be in her mid 30s, but has not-inconsiderable strength. Morgase looks too young to have an 18 year old daughter, but not one person has commented on Elayne's youth in regards to her pregnancy. Therefore, Morgase looks less than 18 years older than Elayne. She's 43, but looks at least 10 years younger. If Melaine looks 35, she has to be over 50. That's why Sorilea "is the oldest living Wise One, though not by as much as many think..." and why Mora was 300 but still looked young when she died. Of course, none of this proves that Sorilea would not last up until 800, looking 65 for most of the time from now until then.

As for Elaida, obviously her strength in the Power played a role in her becoming advisor to Morghase.
Not obviously at all.

Her cozying up to Morghase had just been a way to get added credentials for the job. When the post became open, her relationship with Morghase, added to her strength in the Power meant that when the matter came before the Hall,

Prove that it came before the Hall.
the Reds could make the proposal and expect support for it. Its like Siuan's administrative skills and her being raised Amyrlin. Obviously it played a role, but since Aes Sedai think strength in the OP goes with strength in character, they wouldn't have considered her for the job at all but for her strength.
There is no correlation between the posts! There is no proof that an Aes Sedai needs Tower authorization or that the Hall votes on a sister's acceptance of outside employment.

Sure, there are Grey sisters we've seen who're not the strongest, but get appointed to top spots. But those are women who have a lot of experience proving that they're good despite their "deficiency" in the Power. Elaida had none of that. Her strength and her relationship with Morghase was all she had.
And there is no evidence that she needed anything more than the latter criterion.
