I do not blame you, but that practically means skipping TPoD through KoD. Joel Send a noteboard - 15/01/2013 06:16:17 AM
She is also more responsible than any other one thing for how the pacing completely DIES in books 8-11. We spent a third of the freaking series listening to Perrin channel an angst-ridden teen while she played at being a captive Machiavelli. I am sure it was all very touching for Harriet (who does not love knowing they are the model for the most universally despised character in their spouses two decade epic? ;)) Yet those 2000 pages of unceasing drudgery did more to turn off a once large and rabid fanbase than all the baths and embroidery in the Westlands.

I had enough the first times I read it. It really added nothing to the story and reading the chapter summaries online as sufficient. It took hours off my time (I used audiobooks).

I want to imagine that almost being killed in the Last Battle and spending a large chunk of time under a dead horse AND a dead Trolloc might calm her down a bit, but this is Faile, so she'll probably take it as evidence that she can't be killed. :-)

I remember thinking when KoD was released that at least all the pieces were in place so we could FINALLY be rid of that interminable kidnapping plotline, yet it still consumes the first two-thirds of the book. It almost literally ruined, BY ITSELF, what had previously been an excellent series.

You just hit on probably the major structural weakness of the series with respect to characters. - 15/01/2013 02:54:59 AM 1394 Views
I think this is why I still enjoy Rand as a character so much - 15/01/2013 03:37:52 AM 1340 Views
