It seems I have missed something. In AMOL or earlier?Yes, in AMoL, pretty much right after the Last Battle itself is won. The short version is that Mat specifically asks Hawkwing if he's a Hero, and Hawkwing says that Mat had done enough to earn a place as a Hero but that he didn't think the offer would be made for certain, other, unspecified reasons.
