A spy in the enemy's camp? Please, EVERYONE wants and trys to have one of those.
Looking at the battelfield through a bird's eye? We've seen that before from Grendel, and the shadow doing that is OLD news. Yeah, he used a hawk instead of a crow... wow, how creative.
The only baeeltfield strategy we see him employ is "Take the high ground" (which Matt knew he was going to do and planned to let him), and attack an unsupported unit with overwhelming force. The shadow did not manuver, they did not parry, they just cam straight on and used-a-bigger-hammer.
The Sharan surprise? Matt wasn't surprised. He didn't know exactly what was comming, but he maned the heights specifically for the Shadow to take them and ruight before the surprise he had already ordered his forces off them.
Demondred might be a good general, but nothing in the battle showed it. Every gai he made was due to overwhelming force, or compulsed leaders giving it to him. Matt basically grabbed him by the nose and lead him to his defeat without him ever being aware it was coming.
