Those weren't Novices though... fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 20/05/2014 03:56:13 AM

Of course, if would probably have required some effort on the part of the full sisters, which we all know would not have been appreciated.

You mean linking with Novices and making them use the Power for long stretches of time every day? Yes, that would have been dumb.
Forcing under supervision is not the same as letting them run wild. The Black Tower kept the Asha'man pretty well under control with their forcing, and that was with the taint and madness on top of it all.

I can't find the damned quote now, but they didn't do very well at all. Quite a large number died.
It should not be too hard for Aes Sedai to drive novices in similar fashion, with less loss, since there is no taint to worry about.

The taint is a separate issue. The problem with overdrawing is exactly the same. Not to mention how incredibly demoralizing it would be. The Black Tower had major issues with their initiates being treated as mere weapons, not least of which was a complete loss of faith in Rand for the initiates. Its a stroke of luck they had someone like Logain to organize around.
The only real One Power superiority of the Aes Sedai over other groups is in the scope and breadth of their knowledge. At practical channeling and recruiting and other things, the Wise Ones, Windfinders, sul'dam/damane & Asha'man kick their assess. The Aes Sedai know more tricks, but that doesn't amount to much on the battlefield. Militarily, the Aes Sedai are like the Modern Major General of Pirates of Penzance, whose base of knowledge and considerable education was apparently at the cost of military expertise.

This argument would have held water before aMoL, maybe. But the evidence we have points to the contrary. The Aes Sedai more than held their own, as it turned out. Be it at Shayol Ghul, or Lan's army or the main Aes Sedai battle front, they were pretty much dominating the field. Only the Sharans with 400 channelers in mixed gender circles were able to match them, and that didn't last very long either.
