In retrospect, I have doubts that anyone, including BS, really thought he was the best person for the job. I think it was more likely that the people at Tor just said "Alright, we've got a young, talented, prolific writer here in Brandon Sanderson. Let's have him finish tWoT and get some name recognition!"
