When a Darkfriend is executed, it says something like, "Death was not the end of trouble for her. She realized that with a look of horror on her face." with the implication that 1) her soul would survive after death, 2) she'd go to "hell" and be tortured there by the Dark Lord.

Also same impression around Verin's death - how her soul was forfeit and there was nothing that could have been done for her.

So, does Randland has heaven & hell?! And do all Darkfriends automatically go to hell? Unless they somehow manage to achieve immortality and never die. Doesn't seem like a good deal.

It doesn't make sense to me. What tortures/horrors were awaiting Sheriam after her death? This bothers me.

We saw two darkfriends - Ingtar and Verin - who returned to the light at the hour of their death, knowing that would be the end for them, and both were very peaceful at their demise. Darkfriends who have not done so, were horrified at death.

I am guessing that the oath to serve the dark one "till the hour of death" means that if they have renounced it in their last hour, their souls are free and they don't die as darkfriends, so the dark one can no longer take their soul. In Ingtar's case this happens by chance (or Taveren twisting). Verin probably knew that and planned accordingly.

As for what happens to those who die as darkfriends - recall EoTW where the darkfriend that tried to capture Rand and Mat in Four Kings is later shown dead in a dream and how horrified he is to discover what *really* awaits failure after death.
