Regardless of his epiphany at the end of the book, Rand has distanced himself from his loved ones by alienating and lashing out at them.


Min is still traumatized. Rand can see the fear in her eyes.

But the fear is not what Rand thinks it is. Min isn't afraid of him. She's afraid that she can be used to hurt him and she can't protect herself as well as she thought.
