Hmm TaskmasterJack Send a noteboard - 02/11/2009 08:34:40 PM
My own thoughts:

1. Demandred is a Seanchan general. I arrived at this unscientific conclusion based on the fact that he, Mesaana and Semirhage had a plot together, according to Graendal. Semirhage used to be in Seanchan, Mesaana was in the Tower. Despite Semirhage having been captured and balefired, the Black Ajah STILL knew of the HIGHLY SECRET Seanchan raid ahead of time and managed to escape. This points to Mesaana's surviving co-conspirator, Demandred, being in Seanchan. Furthermore, Demandred claimed to have an army (and liked commanding them), but Graendal (discounting the Seanchan for some reason) couldn't think of any armies big enough left in the world other than the Borderlanders.

It fits that he is commanding armies of Seanchan.

It seems odd that they would put two Forsaken eggs in one basket. The Forsaken put someone in most of the major forces of power ~ Andor, Tear, Illian, White Tower, Tower rebels, Seanchan, Arad Doman (okay, Graendal's domain sucks), Asha'man. The only ones they really seemed to let run free was the Borderlands, the Aiel (with some interference), and the Whitecloaks. With those three and a few others, it seems odd not to place Demandred in one of those rather than double up on a resource. I'd probably suspect the Whitecloaks (Asunawa's half, not Galad's) over Seanchan. That's a group that would seem horribly overlooked if they didn't have a Forsaken at place somewhere in their organization. Plus, there was a scene that seemed to indicate a Gateway from the blight had recently been opened near Asunawa's tent.

2. Asmodean was killed by Lanfear. She might not even have been Cyndane yet when she did it. She had just fallen into the realm of the Eelfinn and was granted three wishes if she agreed to pay the price. She probably agreed, with one of the wishes being to kill Asmodean, at which point she probably was given temporary access to Caemlyn to kill him.

I've always been of the camp that Lanfear was already enjoying three wishes from a visit to the Eelfinn and would be granted no more. I just don't see Lanfear as very plausible.

If anyone is wondering what three wishes Lanfear probably made, I'd guess to be the most beautiful woman who would ever live, the most powerful woman (in the One Power) who would ever live (this would explain her claim when she encounters a Alivia, who is very powerful but actually has the aid of an angreal, that a more powerful woman is an impossibility) and to leave the Finn's realm unharmed (the Eelfinn comment to Mat that it is wise to ask that you be able to leave as one of your wishes, even if he makes his accidentally)

That's not a new position, but I do agree that Graendal's POV seemed to indicate she hadn't really done much for the Shadow and if she had killed Asmodean, she would have thought about it.

In the prologue, Moridin was rewarding her for some reason. She hadn't really done much of anything worthwhile, unless she was involved in killing a traitorous Forsaken (Asmo). Unless you can think of something else she's done worthy of praise. I don't think the mess in Arad Doman is really much of an accomplishment.
