True... but I guess it's hard to sympathize with that struggle beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 02/11/2009 10:47:58 PM
He doesn't know exactly what must be done. He doesn't magically turn out to have perfect leadership. The hero inevitably does the right thing, whether by design or instinct. Gawyn doesn't. He screws up. A lot. He doesn't even know what the right thing is. There's an inherent struggle there that's missing from the other characters.

I mean, he's trying to choose between the Tower and the Rebel Aes Sedai. Yet his sister and one twue wuv are firmly in the rebel camp. And whenever he thinks of those two, it's always in vague patronizing terms. They're just Accepted! They don't have any business being out in the world!

It's an understandable view for him to have, since he hasn't been privy to all the plot and character development we have. But still, think how tiresome it would be if, say, Tam spent every single scene he was in whining about how Rand is just a shepherd, and he should be back where it's safe.

It's a legitimate conflict, but the rest of us got over the Wondergirls' non-Aes Sedai status long ago.
I amuse myself.
