This is kind of a recurring theme in WOT, to me. StormCrow Send a noteboard - 16/11/2009 09:56:52 PM
I mean, I understand that she's angry at Siuan for disobeying her orders, though I don't understand why she's fine with Gareth Bryne doing the same, but her anger against Gawyn is pretty nonsensical. I mean, she never actually told him not to help her, she didn't even acknowledge his existence at all. Plus, since when is Gawyn under her authority? How can he disobey her orders if she isn't in a position to give him orders anyway?

Gawyn gets it because Siuan was told and he should have known. Bryne gets off light because he only went to protect Siuan.

The ladies in general expect the men to do as they're told. Egwene even moreso than the others, since she expects everyone to do what she wants.

This is most noticable in Far Madding and Ebou Dar, but it's part of the WOT world since the Breaking. The tainting of Saidin tainted men in the society as well, to some degree, whether they could channel or not. This is more subtle in other nations, but present in them all.
