Well sort of... I can imagine someone being murdered because they're heretical for some reason, and then the whole city being massacred because they're pretty much all the same according to the Hero. Then pages and pages of moral justification. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the reader is wondering for the hundredth time whether he should give his book to his dog, or use it to start a BBQ.
