And talk about bad trackers!!! How long has the golem been on Mat's trail?
You've got that right. Jeez. I think what it is is that the gholam just realized, "Hey, I worked hard all those years, squishing through keyholes, WHICH REALLY HURTS BY THE WAY, killing people left and right, and then I get stuck in a freaking box for 3,000 years with a bunch of random junk and nothing to do. And now they trot me out without so much as a how-do-you-do and send me off hunting people again. Well, I did it and that one guy was very mean and burned me with that fox thing and I'm just tired of it. This is a nice place and all I really want is to get myself a nice little cottage and and get some sheep and tend to them (and suck their blood of course) and relax. If the end of times is near, why should I break my back? Seriously, what am I going to get out of it? I'll just cease to exist like everyone else. Well screw that. Those jerks never appreciated me in the first place and let's just see how they get on without ol' Steven J. Gholam for once. I bet they'll wish they had been nicer to me! 'Where in the world is Steve?' they'll say. 'Has anyone heard from Steve on that whole Cauthon thing?' But it won't matter because they'll never find me. I can just squish down into a thimble if they come around and they'll think the place is deserted. Why, I'm going to... hello, what's this? Jeez, I must have been walking out here for hours. That cottage! it's perfect! And there's already sheep! Wow! Fantastic! Let me just go ahead and kill whoever's in here. *knock knock...* Hello there, goodman, I'm here to kill you toda- WHOA! You're a nasty bit of work aren't you? Yyyikes. Sorry man. Hey look, I won't kill you. I don't think I could. Nah, you couldn't kill me either. I'm like rubber. Anyway, I'm Steve. Padan, you say? Well nice to meet you, man. Say is that a stones board you've got there? Do you have anyone to play with? I could... I could play you if you want. Say, is it just you out here all alone? Wow, how about that. Yeah, well I was looking for this guy but it just became this big hassle and I really don't want to do it anymore. You too?! That's crazy! Who was your guy? Tall redhead? Hmm, not sure I've heard of him, but anyway who cares. God, it's so good to meet you. I feel like I haven't had anyone to talk to all this time but I feel like you really get me. Well thank you! I'm glad you feel the same. So you're not going to track your guy anymore? I hear you. I'm not either. Is... is that a spare room you've got there? Oh yeah? Well um... and look this is just a what if... what if I um, well what if I moved in with you and we could be roomies? Yeah? Seriously?! Oh that would be awesome! Yeah screw all this tracking, let's just retire here and hang out! Man, this is going to be so fun. Whoa! What's that balloon thing you're doing! That is so neat! Hey I bet I could do that. Watch what I can do with that little hole in your fence. Seriously check this out..."
So yeah, I think those two guys are just done. Not gonna see 'em again. It's the easy life for them now.
