That's Really the Only Way Balefire Is Plausible. The Name With No Man Send a noteboard - 29/11/2009 11:10:15 AM
... is that removing her from the Pattern would only remove things that Semhirage did directly. It was Rand's physical hands that caused the bruises, not Semhirage's.

The Graendal example illustrates this as well. When Graendal was destroyed by balefire, the thing that she caused directly -- Compulsion on whatshisface -- was undone. But the indirect things were not. If things that Graendal had indirectly caused had been undone as well, then whatshisface would never have come walking back to Rand.

Otherwise you have a ripple effect since very few actions occur in a vacuum. If balefire undoes not only what the target has done, but anything someone else did because of the targets actions, and anything yet more people did because of what those others did... I know it's supposed to have a powerful effect on the Pattern, but that would probably unravel it the first time balefire was used.

Why would he (or 98% of WoT readers) want that? *NM* - 29/11/2009 05:37:34 AM 315 Views
Maybe because it was done with the True Power ? *NM* - 29/11/2009 06:10:26 AM 296 Views
