....it is a physical requirement so "gloves" it is Onarishma Send a noteboard - 03/12/2009 06:58:55 AM
from Nov. 17 :

Q: Do the Forsaken consider themselves Darkfriends?
A: Oooh, you are tricky! I know what you’re doing. [For those that don't, this guy is trying to figure out if this is how Mesaana beat the Oath Rod. - Terez] I would say that, in general, yes they do consider themselves Darkfriends, though there are ways somebody would be able to get around that. I would say, yes, that that is not the sort of mental gymnastics that…it is very easy to convince yourself that you are not a Darkfriend.

He says that the Forsaken in general, do consider themselves Darkfriends. But then he waffles between not doing that sort of "mental gymnastics", to being able to convince yourself you're not a Darkfriend.

Just the way he handles answering this question leads me to believe this isn't something he really considered until it was put to him, making it unlikely this is the way Mesaana got around the Oaths.

From Nov. 11 :

Q: Is Mesaana still in the Tower?
A: Egwene makes some deductions about this at the end of the book. Egwene is not incorrect.
Q: She could swear that she’s not a Darkfriend on the Oath Rod, right?
A: As long as she believed it to be true. Every remaining Aes Sedai in the Tower has retaken the Three Oaths. You should be thinking about ways to defeat the Oath Rod. There is a way to do it.

Look closely at the last answer. He is saying there are ways to defeat the Oath Rod not defeat the Oaths. This implies either removing the Oaths after swearing on the Oath Rod, or making it appear you took the Oaths, without actually doing it.

As others have pointed out, taking the Oaths has the risk of not being able to safely remove them, and, with Egwene knowing that a Forsaken is still hiding in the WT, I imagine the Oath Rod would be well protected.

I suggest making it look like you took the Oaths would be much easier and safer. I believe all you would have to do is invert a Keeping around yourself for protection. Here's why:

..."whatever was woven into a Keeping could not change until the weave was removed. CoT chapter 17.

If the oath is established by physical contact or by magical contact there could be different answers.

Physical contact could be solved by a "glove" of some sort woven with inverted weaves.

Magical contact i can't really explain. The oath rod was for criminals i doubt there was any way to slip around using it. If there was Semi would have figure it out. and if it a physical contact then no inverted weaves "gloves" would have worked in the AOL, they would have probably swept for hidden weaves before allowing the oath taking.

I'm not convinced. I don't believe she'd want to subject herself to being sworn. - 01/12/2009 09:54:40 PM 674 Views
Not just that, but in the AoL, the Oath Rod was used to "bind criminals". *NM* - 02/12/2009 05:41:35 AM 246 Views
