that they already knew that male channelers couldn't be compelled by the bond- otherwise that would be some despicable behaviour on Cad's part.
I don't see why the male channelers can't be compelled by the bond unless they are stronger and are holding the Source. Alanna failed with Rand because he was holding Saidin, and he obviously is far stronger than her.
I forget where, but I think that in one of the Forsaken meetings, Sammael or Demandred is thinking to himself that the women can't compel them when they hold the source.
Nynaeve and Elayne were compelled by Moghedien, and Nynaeve broke that later by using the power to break the weave.
