Gawyn is a fool all of his own redqueen Send a noteboard - 04/12/2009 08:02:10 PM
Moreso than any other character in the series - except perhaps Lanfear - Gawyn's actions are dictated, decided and justified by his emotions. Anything and everything is forgivable in the name of his love, and every major decision he has ever taken, he has later gone back on. I honestly have little idea what kind of character he was in his earlier years, but Egwene - or maybe just love in general - ruined him. I wouldn't trust him to feed my chickens, never mind carry a sword, or heaven forbid, lead an army.

I also found her answers about Rand to be (while better than the average AS answer) rather lacking, if not completely off the mark.

Her answers were chilling. Part of me hopes that they were political, telling other sisters what she thinks they want to hear, but I fear she honestly believes the things she said about him. She really and truly has come to believe in the Aes Sedai philosophy that they are entitled to pull the strings and make the decisions, that they know best, possess the greatest insight, are the best qualified to make every decision in every regard. This is after she has travelled across the world and met people of nearly every culture in Randland, channelers and not. She should know better. She did know better, once. But the new, strong, united Tower will immediately go back to its business of trying to run the world. Three thousand years spent in decline, very nearly being destroyed entirely in the process, and they have learned nothing!

Semirhage's pathetic nature is explicable in light of Verin's nature. The DO doesn't want his tools to be too clever. Graendal tried that and was used as a pawn.

But why? They can never be a threat to him. The DO is as fundamental a part of the universe as the laws of physics. He has everything to gain and nothing to lose by recruiting the most talented and able people into his ranks. I've never understood that.
