Verin knows a lot about our three ta'veren. She was very adamant that Mat not open the letter, and Mat made a deal with her. If she's aware of Mat's sense of honor, then she knows he can be trusted to do exactly as he's instructed once his word is on it.

Knowing that allows her to do as I suggest. It's not a question of would the DO would come down and kill Verin for oathbreaking, it's a question of whether Verin could convince herself to write down the words in the first place. I believe that she could.


She said she looked for the oath rod, and that when she couldn't find it, this was her other, less ideal option. She couldn't have known that she wouldn't be able to find the oath rod when she gave him the 10 day directions.
