Rand did discover both skimming and traveling. Those could be said to be a form of pattern manipulation given his description about the technique to Egwene. He also makes the largest gateway we have seen any single person do I believe?

I always thought that those were just a question of strength and LTT coming through but could they be a clue of something else? A natural talent for that kind of OP use. Rand also was able to prevent Aviendha's gateway from closing and Asmodean says its a rare thing. Asmodean also compliments Rand on the size of his skimming platform as though it were somehow special.

What else? Rand did come up with balefire very early and seemed able to use it instinctively. Balefire does manipulate the pattern by burning the threads backwards. Could be another clue?

We also know that in TGS after using the TP he seems to believe that he could kill Cadsuane by forcing the pattern itself to obey him. Now it is implied that this is because he is so strongly ta'veren, but could it be another clue. Maybe memories from LTT telling Rand that he has a special ability to influence the pattern that few others had.

Not anything conclusive but suggestive perhaps.
