Graendal's only really cared about Arad Doman. I find it very unlikely that she was ever going to leave Arad Doman and cause Rand pain. Even when he arrived, she probably stepped up her plans a notch and became wary, but she tends to hide in the shadows and I doubt Moridin fooled her, or made her alter much.

And for example even Demandred showed misunderstanding why it is so important to spread chaos in LoC. I guess that Graendal similarly doesn't really care if Rand has "pain of heart". Probably she just considers it to be typical Moridin theology.

Also the reward Moridin mentions is probably not that tempting to Graendal. She obviously already stands highest in the Nae'blis' favor (Demandred is likely too dangerous for Moridin), and certainly the reward also won't be becoming Nae'blis herself.

Therefore I believe Graendal didn't waste much or any thought on causing Rand pain of heart, especially since this might provoke him even more to directly act against her (what Graendal doesn't want at all), but concentrated her plotting on preventing order in Arad Doman. After all, since Arad Doman is her lair anyway, she would also directly profit from this, while probably only the Nae'blis profits from Rand having pain of heart.

I agree that Graendal wouldn't be tempted by Moridin's promises. None of them would be. All of the Forsaken want to be the Nae'blis - not gain his favour. If Graendal ever did consider doing something for his favour, it would only be to get close to him so she could knife him in the back.

Graendal herself says that no one can stand against Rand, which once again reinforces her unwillingness to stand against him. It's a miracle she didn't flee Arad Doman the instant she heard he'd arrived, but by then she'd probably created such a mass of Compulsion that she convinced herself that she stood a real chance to choose a battleground on her terms. This was a dilemma Rand himself brought up, knowing how Graendal works.

Moridin's aim was to keep Graendal in Arad Doman. - 29/01/2010 06:37:50 PM 483 Views
You mean that Moridin sacrified Graendal, do I understand this right? *NM* - 29/01/2010 07:13:56 PM 210 Views
Yeah, that's what I suspect at least. No hard evidence... yet. *NM* - 30/01/2010 06:39:48 AM 202 Views
