Like Nynaeve who wanted to marry Lan at the end of book 1. Or Rand who has three wives, all of whom he met within weeks. Or Mat who married only because of prophecy. Bah... they're all messed up.


In fact, I'm of the opinion that Mat's romantic development was the most realistic of the plotlines in the series. It's not like he even got married on purpose, he accidently jumped into that mess, and the rest was in Tuon's court.

And combining Mat's foreknowledge of his destiny with Tuon with their concentrated close proximity and "courtship" in KoD, and his affection for her is really quite believable.


It was one of his wishes. The Foxes set up his marriage because he wished for it inadvertently. He's never really shown much attraction to her, and he's quite fond of even the most average of women.
