I always thought Mat would be a huge "in" for Rand regarding the Seanchan. What better then having an excellent general, good friend to the Dragon, and one major ta'veren getting married to Tuon? Rand's relationship with Tuon is rocky at best, and I think Mat is at least part of the solution.
