Nynaeve isn't the "most fearless", but she is the bravest

Who is the bravest WOT character -- a soldier willing to sacrifice the most for their own cause?
I'm going to say Nynaeve, but I'm not precisely answering your question.
Others benefit from that youthful (dare I say "adolescent"?) sense of invulnerability, whereby the normal human psyche blocks them from believing in danger. I would put Faile, Galad, and Elayne in this category most often, though others frequently fit the description (Egewene, Mat, Nicola).
Some characters, like Lan, Cadsuane, and 98% of the Aiel are better described as fearless. Ho-hum, I'm going to die.
But for my answer, I'm going to describe "bravery" as "having lots of fear and perservering"; which means also having lots of hope.
Hence Nynaeve. She is past the first stage (youth) but hasn't reached the second (nihilism?). Worse, her fears come in many different flavors: She fears a loss of the dominance she had as Wisdom, especially facing Aes Sedai (social), she is scared of Moghedien (mortal), she is afraid of what she did to Birgitte (guilt), she is terrified of the Sea Folk (psychological), she is afraid for Lan (romantic), and she worries about Rand (maternal) and the fate of the entire world (philosophical).

I'd say there are only two serious candidates, and one clear winner

Can totally get behind Tuon for that scene. Bornhold's a boring fanatic, though. *NM*

The thing is, most of the people I try to think of didn't really have a 'cause' ...
