I guess I could have been clearer in writing that. By Rand's actions I meant his use of balefire to burn Graendal's palace out of existence. I do agree that Graendal could very well have run for it as soon as she realized she was compromised as that is what she does. I also agree that it was silly of Rand to send Ramshalan down there all by himself the way he did as it wouldn't take much to put together what's going on and if anyone could do that it would be Graendal. That still doesn't solve the problem of the disappearing compulsion unfortunately.

I would personally be quite pleased if Graendal outwitted Rand and survived given how arrogant he was being at the time and the fact that Graendal deserves a much better send off IMHO. I am also waiting for Rodel Ituralde to betray Rand in some way as I have a feeling Graendal placed compulsion on him when he met her masquerading as Lady Basene.

I don't think Ramshalan was intended to fool anyone least of all Graendal. If Rand has shown up or marshaled his forces Grendal would have run, she made it clear enough before that she was not going to risk a head to head fight with him after what had happened to all the others.

What Rand did was a lot more cleaver though. Grandal would know that Rand would not just send random nobles out via gateway to every manor alone with out any escort etc just waiting to be picked up by traveling.

When Ramshalan showed up it told Graendal that Rand knew where she was but the great student of the mind would also have known enough about LTT and Rand pre TGS that he did not sent in pawns to be sacraficed, he was far too soft hearted for that. So Graendal assumed that Rand was going to try to manipulate her instead of an outright attack and this gave her a comfort zone so that she would not run straight away.

We cannot forget that the forsaken are greedy by nature. Once Graendal in her own mind satasfied herself that she was in no iminate peril she probably started to think of what reward she would get if she could deliver Rand to the DO. So she figures she is cleaver that Rand and can win any scheemng game he might come up with. She never saw the sledgehammer in his hand until it smashed her head in and wiped her from the pattern.
