Oh dear. I went and mixed up I-330 and O-90. Vodalus Send a noteboard - 08/09/2009 03:19:21 AM
Oh, his stories were fine enough, I guess. What bothered me about them is that they exude a faint stench which I associate with (counter)propaganda. That and a "I'm a serious man doing serious things" attitude.

Give me an example of what you mean.

I can't. It's been more than two decades since I read those books. And given my seemingly ever-diminishing time for books in conjunction with bookshelves that keep filling up with books I've yet to read, I can't justify doing a re-read of even some of my all-time favorites. That depresses me sometimes.

The best thing about ACO is "Nadsat" (Wiki is your friend). It makes the book. I haven't read HT. Some people praise it as a masterpiece, others say it's crap written by a feminazi. Care to make a comment or three when you've finished it?

Yeah, absolutely.

I thank you in advance.

Btw, you and your husband still working on those stories?

I liked him. Of course there were a few times when he needed a swift kick in the ass, but.... And I wholly believe that I-330 loved him. His problem was that he was torn between doing what was expected of him and doing what he, instinctually, knew to be right. Subversive bastard, that Zamyatin.

Hmm... so do you think she started out to use him as the builder of the Integral, or do you think she loved him from the start? I don't see how anyone could love him- he was brainwashed. He was too smart to be, but he was. The only reason he even considered betraying the State was because he had fallen in love with her.

My mistake. I-330 was all about the cause, so I think she had ulterior motives from the get-go. While she might have developed some feelings for him as they spent more and more time together, I don't think love would be what I'd call it. She was just too hardcore. She was also the most individuated character in the book, which is a good part of what made her so alluring. Everybody else was the go-along-to-get-along type. Sheeple. Bah! And yes, D-503 was brainwashed. Hmm, actually, that might not be quite right. I don't think he started out with a strong enough sense of self to qualify for being brainwashed. When he finally did, it was a tumor to be removed. Dammit! You're making me think. ><img class=' />
