Re: I'm fairly certain you guys have that totally wrong...

All that holds for them being Secret as well. Bathilda Baghot could not visit them if their house was Secret, even if they were not. And Nobody could send them gifts if their house was Secret, as owls (or Postmen, for that matter) would not find it. I don't have the book handy. Are you sure all this happens after they have been subjected to the Secrecy Charm, rather than them merely being in (normal) hiding at this point?
Actually, it does not. Bathilda could likely visit since the Secret Keeper revealed their location to her.
That would hold true either way. No matter what the Secret was, it would have to be revealed to Bathilda. Whether they were invisible or their house. That was my point.
My main issue with that is that if Pettigrew had revealed their location to people, people must have known he was the Secret Keeper. THAT is odd. Because the whole "Serius was believed to be evil" bit hinges upon everyone thinking he was the Secret Keeper.
But the critical point, anyway, is that James is unable to go out of the house without his cloak. If he was the secret, he could have.
People like Sirius probably knew where to send the gift because he knew the secret location of the Potters.
And Petunia?
It doesn't matter whether Sirius or Petunia knew where to send the gift. The Postman/owl wouldn't be able to find the place to deliver them.
And they weren't in normal hiding before this. Fudge tells us they were under the Fidelius Charm for only a week. And we have been told that before they went into hiding, they were very active members of the Order (by Rowling). So there was no pre-charm hiding.
They can be active members of the Order and still be in hiding. There is no contradiction there. It is just about levels of hiding.
That is fine either way.
No it isn't. If the Potter's were the secret, then Voldemort's destination, their house, would have always been visible. Only they wouldn't have been.
See, it is perfectly possible to use "destination" and "sight" figuratively. It proves nothing either way.
But Voldemort clearly states that their house was his destination, and that is what was visible at last. He sees Lily and James through the window after this statement, and makes no comment on them being visible only now.
Nowhere does it say "house". Language is fiddly. It is all about interpretation.
That is not a given from your quote.
It is.
No.
Yes. But when was the letter written?
There is nothing conclusive above.
But would they have known what to blast?
Why ever not? That House was the Potter's ancestral home. If it was not concealed, the Death Eaters would have been able to see it and blast it. The fact that James and Lily were concealed would then mean absolutely nothing.
Was it the Potters' ancestral home?
And of course it would matter. The Death Eaters would have no way of knowing whether they had chosen to stay in that house or move to another. They would have no way of verifying it either way, and Voldemort would need to KNOW that the one child that could threaten him was gone. For all they would have known, the Potters could have stayed in Hogwarts, with Sirius or under a bridge. They would also have had no way of knowing that they were in the house when it was blasted. The only way of making sure to kill the Potters would be to extinguish all life on Earth.
