I like the way Rowling writes that. There's more than just Malfoy's feelings of inadequacy behind his animosity. There's rejection (from the train scene on the way to Hogwarts in Book 1), and Draco striving to live up to his father's example. I think he's a great character, however flawed.

And that, to add insult to injury, a "blood traitor" and a "Mudblood" share in Harry's glory and help him.
