So, third book. Knight bus, Grim, Trelawney, dementors, Lupin, Sirius, Buckbeak, time-turners, Scabbers/Pettigrew, Snape.

Lupin is an excellent character. JKR seems to love the awesomeness-in-the-face-of-adversity role. He knows his business, and yet again we get the glimpse of a truly worthy person being hounded (heh) by something "unacceptable" in the wizarding world. I think it's down to Harry's trust for Lupin that the end is able to work the way it does. Otherwise, I'd feel Harry turned towards Sirius too quickly.

Ugh, I really start to wonder if I'd like Snape as much as I do if I hadn't seen the movies. I'm almost positive that I would not. He's horrible in the books, though yes, Harry is also unreasonable about him.

The time-turner pointed Dumbledore's actions out to me more strongly this time than Harry and Hermione (though, of course, the dementor meets stag/harry/dad scene is excellent). It could be because I'm further ahead in the re-read than I ought to be, but Dumbledore seems to be the exact duplicate of forethought as JKR is with her unfolding story. Maybe I just <3 him and am dramatizing it, but I'm just saying what I noticed this time.
