And I think that books 5, 6, and 8 are among Erikson's better novels Larry Send a noteboard - 24/08/2010 05:06:43 PM
There is no way that you've read Steve Erickson's Arc d'X or Zeroville if you're making those sorts of claims! ><img class=' />

As these are great...

Steven Erikson, on the other hand, perhaps ;)

I would say that Erikson has two books in his series that truly stand out, and a 3rd that has a lot of very good things. The primary advantage that Sanderson has when approaching the start of his 10 book series, as opposed to when Erikson started his, is that Sanderson is much more accomplished and practiced a writer. The Way of Kings is head and shoulders beyond Garden of the Moons, but we're still just talking the first book of a series. Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice will be interesting comparisons for the next volumes in Stormlight. (Of course, I'm of the opinion that Erikson degraded a good deal in his later books)

I really need to get back to writing summaries of my re-reads of those books. TBH and TtH are much more important for the overall storyline than I had suspected after an initial read 2-3 years ago. But I know I'm in a minority opinion on that ;)
