Honestly, I couldn't have given a rat's ass about its environmental impact. LiterateDog Send a noteboard - 08/10/2010 11:06:06 PM
You people who own one: did environmental considerations come into play when you bought yours?

No, not at all. If someone had said that it was as bad as a Hummer, I'd still have bought it. It's THAT good.

Would an e-Reader be better for the environemnt? Obviously fewer forests need to be chopped down, which is lovely for the air, but how green are the components?

I think they might be better, but they're definitely no worse. For any future book purchases, it's just a tiny blip of electricity and you have a whole new book. For a new printed book, they have to cut down trees, transport those trees, process those trees into paper, process the paper into book paper, print the book, bind the book, ship the book, store the book, etc.

I'm almost ready to demand one for a present, and (honestly) apart from the functional aspect of having loads of books in a small space, the green factor is really the deciding point for me.

Demand it! You'll be happy did.

Thoughts?

Damn, girl. You sho' is pushy. I already said "demand it!"
