I mean the way he speaks Parseltongue without realizing it, but also doesn't realize it when listening to it. A decidedly unrealistic approach to foreign languages, but then if it's a magical thing, I suppose it makes more sense... that "speaking Parseltongue" is not something you can learn, but more like an innate translator - a Babelfish, one might say - converting snake speech to human and vice versa.
