First some plot questions:
The darkness Trelawny talks about, is that the Peruvian darkness powder?
And is Draco actually being compelled to talk? Or is it just psychology?
Another plot point: we see Dumbledore's want being defeated by Draco, which becomes quite important in the final book.
It is revealed that Snape overheard the prophecy. I have some issues with how that is done. Haven't we been told before that he was thrown out before the whole prophecy had been delivered? How can Trelawny then remember him? She does not remember anything while giving prophecies.
I like how Dumbledore drops hints about why he trusts Snape: his great remorse, the greatest regret of his life, the reason he turned. All true. It isn't his secret to tell, of course, but he provides enough of a background for it to make sense when we do learn the truth.
And then there is the shock of Harry being right again: Dumbledore does leave the school with inadequate defences. And he shows excellent foresight in giving the Felix Felicis to Ron, Hermione and Ginny.
There is also a strange reversal of roles after the cave and before Dumbledore's death. Harry takes on the role of carer. Dumbledore says something about not being worried because he is with Harry. Perhaps it is an indication that he has fulfilled his role. The mentor stepping aside when he is no longer needed is such an important part of the type of bildungs-narrative (which Harry Potter does fall under).
I do love the scene at the top of the tower. Not just how Dumbledore treats Draco, but the final moment with Snape. It is beautiful misdirection (which I appreciate even more because I was never fooled, what with my blind faith in Dumbledore and Snape). I read the scene the first time as I do now, and it had great impact on me.
My one problem with it is the falling off the tower. I understand it is meant to build suspense (a little like she did with Sirius), but it does not work for me.

The scene that has been coming for such a very long time, and the end of an era. Was it well done?
