The role of Regulus. I know bragging is not really the done thing, but I am still terribly proud of having worked out the identity of R.A.B immediately when I first read the book. Perhaps it wasn't as hard to work out as I thought at the time. It is not a buried clue, after all. It is just a matter of recognising the letters. Still….
I caught this the first time around too, but it is still a very interesting aspect to the story. It provides color around the Black family issues. Love that we find the detail out from Kreacher too.
The lull, or the feeling of wrapping things up and clearing the board here … is that just me? Dumbledore's funeral feels a little like a recap. No, that isn't the right word. An overview of the main points. Something is ending here, and the next book is very different. There is a narrowing of the focus.
I think this was an effective way to set up for the next book. Brings back something from the old books and sets up Harry on his own, without the support of Dumbledore. I hate that this was not in the movie as it would have added something there as well.
My biggest beef with this is... How could Umbridge show her face at this funeral?? Bringing her back now and her resurfacing in DH irks me. Why won't she just go away? Most of the parents must not know 100% about what she did to the children. That or the fear mongering around Muggles / Mudblood's in DH and her prior involvement with legislation around that let her crawl back into the ministry. Most of the kids she punished where half bloods anyway.
