I enjoy reading Dan Brown books. They're beach reading. You don't expect anything serious from them (or at least, you shouldn't). However, they're really no worse than, say, Robert Jordan's books. They're diversions. I believe I called them "fast food books" at one point on this forum. 
I'd argue that they are a qualitative step down from Jordan, but I think that is most likely since I have some nostalgic liking of Jordan's books hidden somewhere deep inside. Or the fact that "moronic" is easier to hide in a secondary world story... I'd rank Brown just above Newcomb in terms of quality, but, I am a hater, and I like it.
