I am constructing a course on Dickens, and so started wondering what I could expect people to have read. I would therefore be very happy if you could reply even if you haven't read anything.

Dickens is a pub, right? I would want to take that course :approve:


There is actually one in Trondheim called Dickens, I think.

Have you read any Dickens?

Oh.. the writer. Right. Yes, I've read David Copperfield.

What have you read?

David Copperfield. And I wanted to read Great Expectations, but was too discouraged by David Copperfield, so I never started it.


David Copperfield has a higher melodrama/fun ratio than a lot of the others.

Have you heard of any (other) Dickens novels?

Cristmas Carol. And probably other titles as well, but can't get them to the front of my mind.

Why have you not read them?

I didn't like David Copperfield.

What is your perception of Dickens?

Too many words about too little.

Have you seen any film/series versions of Dickens' novels?

I think we saw a Christmas Carol in English class or something.
