It's good for people to be brought out of their shells, and it's good for me to work on my social skills. Worst that happens is I get blown off as a nice-but-slightly-overbearing stranger by someone I will probably never see again.

Realizing that most people really don't think twice about you is quite liberating, honestly.

I try to engage a conversation, being polite, etc. I've never gotten the awkward treatment - people usually do like to talk more about what they read. It's really just an extension of talking about themselves, which people are usually very comfortable with.
