Everyone in my extended family has a house full of books. Everyone reads all the time. It would have been impossible to grow up NOT reading, I think.
Probably it's especially my parents, though. They'd read with us right from the start and we never stopped.
Lovely thing: my primary school used to get Dads in to read to the class as a way of encouraging children to pick up books. Especially the big, burly types like my Daddy. (He's 6'3" and has very broad shoulders so kids often find him scary.
) Daddy would go into the class and read them something from a Jacques Cousteau book or similar - often the one about sharks - and apparently it really helped.
