Where he held this up as his "easy read" book. He said he had been criticised for being too erudite and people had said that he would sell more if he wrote easier books; then he had written Loana, which was an easy read, and it had sold less than any of the others.
And between the two this one is probably the better book.
Baudolino is rather full of obscure references to old texts. So if he was talking about the erudition problem it makes sense to single out Loana, since most of its obscure references as to pop culture and recent history.
