Baudolino is rather full of obscure references to old texts. So if he was talking about the erudition problem it makes sense to single out Loana, since most of its obscure references as to pop culture and recent history.

When he talks of Prester John and the like, I have a general idea what he's talking about at least. With Italian pre-WW2 comic books, not so much.


I know what you mean. I recognised them, but only because they ran in newspapers here when I was a kid (Norway tends to be behind times). I imagine an Italian audience might find Loana easier, though. Perhaps I am wrong.
