There are already quite a few publishers who have found a profitable business publishing some really nice hardcover editions. I just spent $175 ordering two limited-editions of books I've read in galley proof/PDF forms, and from what I understand, those 150-1000 print run books tend to sell out quickly and they make their publishers a nice profit.

I suspect there'll be a greater emphasis on the book as an art piece in the near future, though.
