Eh, Star Wars Expanded Universe I could see reading. Some of them are supposed to be good

It's a huge setting, with decades to mature.
The Baldur's Gate books, on the other hand, try extremely hard to just retell the plot of the game. Except instead of deepening the characters and giving the story more complexity, it's almost literally, "The main character is a guy who hits stuff with his sword. He's not too smart, so he doesn't try to understand all this jibber-jabber about "taint" and "souls." He has a friend who suddenly turns into a lesbian because lesbians are Hot."

I amuse myself.
This may be one of the most dire reviews you shall ever read

"Popular", "Fun," and "Easy" doesn't have to be equated with poorly-written

Poorly written by what standard?

By the standards of what I enjoyed as a nine year-old?
