If anything Flaubert's extremely extensive vocabulary is on even more prominent display than in Madame Bovary, so it's not exactly easy reading, but I do like it better so far. Although so far he seems to have gone from really cynical in Madame Bovary to over-the-top melodramatic romantic here, I'm not quite sure whether to expect some dramatic twist to his tone or not.
