Well, it's relevant to this particular novel Larry Send a noteboard - 23/05/2014 05:02:47 PM

I'm always torn when Cosmere stuff comes up.

On the one hand, I love stuff like that. All little bits intertwining, working together, interesting magics and worlds and plots, etc.

On the other hand, any time someone reviews a Stormlight book, there's always some time taken to discuss "The Cosmere," and I feel like it kind of distracts from the actual book itself. I also think Sanderson has this problem- he created some really cool stuff, and wants to show it, but that's not always conducive to a tightly written narrative.

Eh, whatever. Even though there are problems, there's something about Sanderson that makes me enjoy reading his stuff.

Considering that if one who's read the other books might read between the lines and realize that there are some connections to those books being established here beyond strictly Hoid/Wit. Also, establishing that this book/series is part of a whole I don't think distracts from the book itself, but rather places it within context.

But I assess writers more on their prose and dialogue than I do on their ideas/concepts.

Illusions fall like the husk of a fruit, one after another, and the fruit is experience. - Narrator, Sylvie

I wonder if Sanderson should never have told people about his "Cosmere" - 20/05/2014 04:31:25 PM 830 Views

I generally assess writers the same way that you do, Larry. - 23/05/2014 05:18:24 PM 834 Views

Ugh. I hate that. "Creating Literature as an Art Form." vs. "Writing for Entertainment" - 24/05/2014 04:21:08 AM 826 Views
It also gives "entertainment" writers no incentive to improve their style. - 25/05/2014 04:33:23 PM 978 Views
