As it happens, I wrote an example last year. Nate Send a noteboard - 25/05/2014 07:13:41 PM

It even uses Brandon Sanderson. I like Brandon Sanderson. I like his stories. You may not care about writing, and that's fair enough, but for people who do it's fairly clear that his style has some weaknesses. I don't condemn him for that. I also don't see why he shouldn't try to continue improving it (as he generally has over time so far, though recently he seems to have settled in a bit more).

Anyway, hit the link below. It goes to a blog entry I made last year, which talks about basic dialogue strategies and uses an exchange from Sanderson's Mistborn as an example of one thing to avoid. The specific example is under the "He Said, She Said" section of this article.

My blog also has several other entries that talk about basic writing and storytelling, with examples, if anyone is interested in browsing through it.

I think those shifts are part of the character, not something unintentional - 27/05/2014 06:08:44 AM 1008 Views
So bad prose is okay if it is intentional? *NM* - 27/05/2014 03:54:34 PM 487 Views
Okay, I do of course miss the perspective of what comes after. - 27/05/2014 06:29:33 PM 910 Views
I proudly claim the title of literary snob, and will provide you with a quick, unscientific example. - 26/05/2014 08:15:04 PM 1111 Views

Huh. Lana Del Rey quotes Nabokov... I had not made that connection. - 26/05/2014 11:17:47 PM 1231 Views
That quote from Lolita sounds like it is from a romance novel with Fabio on the cover. - 27/05/2014 03:40:37 AM 1024 Views
