I didn't say that the book dealt directly with America

I did however point out that religious fanatacism is not something restricted to muslims in the middle east.
Religious fanaticism can be found in our country as well, and not just the Muslims.
Why do you think Dr. George Tiller was killed if not because of religious fanaticism.
The novel also shows how easily peoples religious beliefs can be manipulated, both in the short term and long term.
Another major theme of the book is the relationship between a cultures "need" for a valuable commodity (The Spice/Oil) and the environmental impact that need has.
I don't think it has anything to do with America's attitude toward abortion. Then again, it's been awhile since I read it.
The deeper themes in the books in many ways foreshadowed what is taking place today in the middle east.

Death to the Regressives of the GOP and the TeaParty. No mercy for Conservatives. Burn them all at the stake for the hateful satanists they are.
Why should I read "Dune"?

Dune is pretty clearly inspired by Islam and the Arab world.
