Nope.

That's not a bad idea. I'm now tempted to start doing reading themes for each year myself, starting in 2011, but to be honest I'd almost certainly get bored of whatever I chose.

I have the same problem - I sometimes can't even make myself read the books I checked out of the library thinking they looked good. If I'd read every book I ever checked out of the library... I'd be a whole lot more well-read.


I hate that too. Isn't it annoying when you keep renewing it for weeks on end, until eventually after having had it for two or three months you have to give it back, and you still haven't found the time to read it?

It's one of those books that just has to be read. Especially when you live in Edinburgh. Like you say, it's short; and I didn't pay money for it, as they were being given out for free during National Book Week (or something) last year.

Wait, what does Edinburgh have to do with it? Is this just because of the general ghost thing? It's set in London, no?


Robert Louis Stevenson was from Edinburgh, and the story was based on the life of Deacon William Brodie: upstanding citizen by day, criminal by night. He too was from Edinburgh.

Pretty much, although I did also decide that, having read them at age 11 and never again, it really was time for a reread...

This is as you probably guessed the shocking part - you've read Tolkien only once?! That must be pretty rare on this site.


I'm really not much of a rereader. I have this memory of it being a huge long thing that I was too intimidated to read again (despite enjoying it the first time), but that's probably because I was very young when I read it. I just had another look, and it doesn't seem that bad after all.

Also, I spent my teenage years reading Robert Jordan instead .
