Hrm. Cockatiel of Doom Send a noteboard - 11/01/2010 11:46:52 PM
Dracula* – Bram Stoker

I think I've read this. Maybe? I know I've read Frankenstein....

A Short History of Nearly Everything – Bill Bryson

Absolutely devoured this book. Highly recommended.

The Master and Margarita – Mikhail Bulgakov

I'm guessing there's not as much about a tasty tequila drink in this book as I would like.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell* – Susanna Clarke

Enjoyed it. Not the best, not the worst.

Catch-22 – Joseph Heller

Tried this one twice, several years apart. Got through it both times, but never really got why everyone thought it was so brilliant. I think people hyped it up too much for me.

Dune – Frank Herbert

I liked this one quite a lot. Never read the sequels. Don't really intend to do so, either.

On the Road – Jack Kerouac

I felt like I was watching a slow motion ping-pong match while reading this. Back and forth across the country they go. The only part I remember enjoying was when they stopped at landmarks I recognized in Denver. :P

One Hundred Years of Solitude – Gabriel García Márquez

Don't listen to anyone else's opinion on this. It seems to be getting a lot of negative attention in this thread, but I loved it (and the others of his work I've read). That without having a ton of knowledge on Latin American culture. I just enjoyed the style and the story.

So, I guess I'm saying read it and figure out which camp you fall in...

The Life of Pi – Yann Martel

It's been at the back of my mind for a while. Will probably read it eventually.

Atonement – Ian McEwan

I actually own that one, got it for a present. Haven't read it yet, though.

Pretty Monsters – Kelly Link

Muchly enjoyed. I read her other two collections first, and possibly liked those even better. There is some overlap, though, which is a bit annoying.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde – Robert Louis Stevenson

Should probably read that one day.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring* – J.R.R. Tolkien

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers* – J.R.R. Tolkien

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King* – J.R.R. Tolkien

Guh. As I said above, I've read them now. So I don't have to ever again. :D

Ringdrotten: Ringens brorlag – J.R.R. Tolkien (tr. Eilev Groven Myhren)

Ringdrotten: Dei to tårna – J.R.R. Tolkien (tr. Eilev Groven Myhren)

Ringdrotten: Kongens atterkomme – J.R.R. Tolkien (tr. Eilev Groven Myhren)

(The three above are The Lord of the Rings in Norwegian, or more precisely Nynorsk)

Yah, you have fun with that.

Taking a break from being Ella
