Carol Berg's Transformation, C.S. Friedman's Feast of Souls Aeryn Send a noteboard - 23/01/2010 01:27:53 AM
Those are really good - trilogies both. Carol Berg's is finished: Transformation, <I>Revelation, and <I>Restoration (the better one, if you made me choose). Friedman's isn't: Feast of Souls and Wings of Wrath so far.

Also good:
Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey
Daughter of the Empire by Janny Wurts & Raymond Feist

if she isn't squeamish, then also The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop.

All the books mentioned are dark fantasy, but still fairly traditional epic fantasy.

Also, this has to be said - my recommendations are better than everyone else's. Except for Elaine's, since she mentioned Daughter of the Empire. Go in order (Berg, then Friedman, etc.), and let us know how she liked them. What else has she read in sf/f that she really liked or disliked?
